Another symbol: Open Mouth Portals

Several animal symbols represent flux tubes, among them snakes and long-necked birds (per Dr. Halls). Their open mouths represent portals through barriers, or the open ends of flux tubes. One classic example is the big frightening open monster mouth, which may appear at the bottom center of a pictogram. That same location commonly uses fire as a symbol of energy entering a torus via a portal, so fire inside the open mouth is a common combination. Tongues are colored red, and red often serves as a visual label for higher density. Tongues do not just stick out; they represent flow exiting a portal, and they usually go horizontally or down. Downward tongues are a feature of Gorgons, and downward, as always, is a visual label for divine high-density energy.
